This aint yer normal indie thing here you know, Bright Kicks have moved things along a bit, added a hint of funkiness and a touch of nu-soul and come up with a vibrant sound that's big, bouncy and as commercial as hell! Certainly you can pick out a few influences. Let's face it, it's becoming ever harder to come up with a sound that doesn't owe its origins to one successful band or another. Bright Kicks have taken their influences and turned them to good use in coming up with a wholly British sound that has global appeal and universal marketing potential.
In just four damn fine tracks Bright Kicks have set out their stall in no uncertain terms; they show what you can do with a bit of phatt funky bass (Greg Kelly), incessant angular guitars (Darryn Clarke) and metronomically precise percussion (David Whitworth). Vocally Bright Kicks kick ass too! Bobby Magee slams his foot to the plate to provide the fourth instrument in Bright Kicks' dynamic armoury. Together these guys lay it down big, bold and amazingly tight as jazzy undercurrents feed the pounding rhythms to bolster the superbly proportioned instrumental onslaught with everything finally fusing into one meaty and pretty hot sound.
As a weapon to lead a promotional attack, this four track work has everything Bright Kicks need to force open many new doors and make some of those 'big cats' stop in their tracks and take notice. This EP is one hell of an introduction to a mighty fine sounding band - faultless, flawless, very professional and nicely appetite whetting!!

It's been a long time coming, but finally our EP has been released. Here are some snippets for you to listen to. Please let us know what you think!!
After getting the drums down at the Cutting Rooms (Manchester) and the bass tracks recorded it's time for me to head down to The Cottage (Macclesfield) to lay down the guitar. Heading down the A34 with a car full to burst with guitars and amps, its a sunny day with the Chilis on the radio and all is well. On arrival and getting set up we have the usual formalities of debating recording methods, and setting up the amps for best sound. 1st track up is 'Beautiful People', managing to get it in one take, phew! next. Several hours later bar one pit stop for a tea break we have 8 tracks doubletracked. Feeling pretty good about a days work I get home and think about doing it all again tomorrow.
On the second day we have an amp change, going for tunes requiring a bit more clarity than the cranked up rockier numbers. The second day produces 5 songs doubletracked and whilst having the chore of shifting all the gear at the end of 2 gruelling days, I took comfort in the volume of songs layed down. I then turn the car ignition, nothing. and again, nothing. Battery dead. Thankfully the AA to the rescue to divert a night of being stuck in Macclesfield.
How awfully rock n roll'!!

Had a great day in the studio on Saturday, managed to get all the drum tracks down for 15 songs. Big thanks to Adam and Roger, they managed to get a powerful yet graceful sound out of the Kit with the little help from a brick! The day was thrown a little when Bobby got called out to Christies Hospital (his job), we had to record more than half of the album without a singer but luckily his hands of magic were no longer needed and he came back after a few hours. Another Big thanks to Mike for driving him about and waiting! I can't miss Dave out so thanks for taking my Mac d's order, tasted great! Personally I feel a bit redundant now while the others crack on with the album. We won't be finished recording until the end of March and then the mixing will commence, so we do have a busy schedule. Anyway that all I have to say, have a gooden and hope you like the tunes.
Thanks Alex, we're glad you like it (spread the word lol!!)Bright Kicks read more
